__________
"Grandpa, why do the Browns always lose?"
On December 27, 1964, the Cleveland Browns football team embarrassed the Baltimore Colts in the 32nd NFL Championship Game, shutting them out 27-0. Little did fans know that it would mark the last time the Browns would win the Big Game. In fact, the closest they have come since then was losing three times to the Denver Broncos in 1986, 1987, and 1989, due to a combination of player mishaps and bad luck - or, was something else at play?
The Cleveland Curse, Volume 1 in a series, is an entertaining allegory that offers an intriguing explanation as to why the team and their fans have suffered such devastating pain for all these years: They are cursed.
The journey begins on December 26, 1964, when team owner Art Modell meets a mysterious stranger smartly dressed in a suit and cashmere overcoat. The unexpected charlatan urges Modell to sign a contract, which promises a Browns victory in the Championship Game the following day.
Is Modell making a deal with the Devil that would forever seal his team's, and its fans,' fate?
Dave Eifert was one of the weird ones in engineering school who appreciated the lone pair of required liberal arts classes and the writing they involved. Decades later, the frustration stemming from the Cleveland Browns' performance in the mid-2010s drove him to channel his feelings into writing. Nine years on, this effort culminated in his debut book, titled Cleveland Curse [Volume 1].
Born and raised in upstate New York, Dave and his father were the only Cleveland Football fans within a 200-mile radius. Since 1993, he has called the Cleveland area home. He has been fortunate to have the support of his wife, daughter, and son, who have patiently endured his frequent outbursts during games and listened to him talk about this book for way too long now.
